Competency 8:

Apply Computer-Based Technologies and Media to the Solution of Instructional Problems

EDCI/566 Primary Education Applications of Multimedia

Quick Grammar Reference Digital Job Aid

Sub-Competency 8 (8SC1): Plans and designs effective learning environments and experiences supported by technology

I have demonstrated that I can plan and design effective learning environments and experiences that are supported by technology. I planned and designed a quick grammar reference digital job aid for to be used for eighth grade English Language Arts students attending public school. Students can refer to the job aid independently to help with homework and to improve their writing skills. I Planned and designed the job aid with simplebooklet.com. The Quick Grammar Reference Digital Job Aid can be viewed with several devices and includes three embedded multimedia PowToon, Piktochart, and Narration. I learned to use SimpleBooklet.com and will continue to incorporate new technologies to create effective learning environments and experiences.

Digital Prototype Assignment

Sub-Competency 8 (8SC2): Applies technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment and evaluation strategies

I have demonstrated that I can apply technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment and evaluation strategies. I created a geography module for a wide range of students. The basketball game is the assessment for the module and will be located after each of the three lessons. Students complete the basketball assessment game throughout the module. I learned that students enjoy games more than the assessment, I combined the basketball game with the assessment creating an effective assessment and evaluation strategy. I will continue to create effective assessments with technology and improve my assessment skills by attending conferences, online courses, and seminars.

Paper Prototype Assignment

Sub-Competency 8 (8SC3): Demonstrates an understanding of social, ethical, legal, and human issues surrounding the use of technology and applies it in practice

I have demonstrated that I have an understanding of social, ethical, legal, and human issues surrounding the use of technology and apply it in practice. I volunteered and created an online module for a non-profit puppet company.

I have demonstrated an understanding of social issues surrounding the use of technology and applied it in practice. The puppets that appear in both the paper and digital prototypes are brightly colored and capture the learner's attention, creating an all-inclusive learning environment. The social focus is on being sensitive to the learner’s academic and cultural differences resulting with learners who are excited and motivated to learn geography with these puppets.

I have demonstrated an understanding of ethical issues surrounding the use of technology and applied it in practice. LMNOPuppets required me to write a script, design, develop, and create an eCourse. I planned the instruction and wrote the story around the instruction. I was expected to use a familiar image with a copyright. I refused to use the copyright image and insisted on adding one of the owner’s images. Utilizing the work of others is unethical, and I refuse to add any unreferenced materials to my work.

I have demonstrated an understanding of legal issues surrounding the use of technology and applied it in practice. I have established my academic integrity by adding images of the puppets provided by the owner of LMNOPuppets. I read the Articulate Storyline 360 user agreement before writing and creating the paper and digital prototypes. When writing academic papers and designing and developing courses I am responsible for ensuring the proper citations and references were used.

I have demonstrated an understanding of human issues surrounding the use of technology and applied it in practice. I created this project to include all students enrolled in Kindergarten through fifth grade. The module can be used as three separate lessons, allowing the teacher to

divide the lessons into smaller lessons for those students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity

Disorders. The Module includes both text and narration as well as the separating the lessons. Students have the option of listening to the narration and read along or turn off the narration and just read the text.

I will continue to demonstrate an understanding of social, ethical, legal, and human issues surrounding the use of technology. My goal is to stay current with these issues by reading, belonging to Instructional Design groups, and by watching current Instructional Design trends.
